WHO THEY ARE
Hyperspectral imaging sees what ordinary satellites cannot: not just where something is, but what it is made of. That makes Pixxel’s data valuable to anyone monitoring emissions, crops, minerals or pipelines from orbit — and it makes the company a genuine deep-tech story rather than a launch-photo story.
The communications problem is that hyperspectral data is invisible to a lay audience. There is no dramatic rocket. The product is a spectral signature. Any content has to make an abstract capability feel concrete and consequential.
The stated ambition was for Pixxel to read not as a company posting updates, but as a living, breathing participant in global industry and space conversations — with the same playfulness and presence Adidas brings to football or Chewy brings to pet care.
THE BRIEF
Build the social media strategy for Pixxel across LinkedIn and Twitter/X — audience, content mix, engagement approach and measurable targets — and then execute the campaign that opens it.
The constraint: no access to company assets and no real hyperspectral imagery. No product photography, no data captures, no brand library. Everything visible had to be built from scratch while still reading as unmistakably Pixxel.
WHAT I DID
Defined the audience in four tiers rather than one. Industry sectors (petroleum & energy, agriculture, environmental monitoring, mining, insurance & risk). Decision-makers — CXOs, VPs, Chief Sustainability Officers, Chief Risk Officers. Government agencies, from energy and environment ministries to space and defence bodies. And professionals: space-tech enthusiasts, ESG consultants, academics, and young professionals who — as the plan puts it — may not be buyers, but they amplify thought leadership.
Built a seven-pillar content mix with explicit cadence: Thought Leadership twice a week, Case Studies & Applications weekly, Visual Explainables weekly, Constellation Updates as milestones occur, Major Announcements as they arise, Culture & People fortnightly, and Timely Engagement around holidays and events.
Wrote the engagement strategy: polls and trivia for decision-makers and nerds alike; an SEO layer of keyword-optimised captions, alt text for LinkedIn search and Google indexing, and hashtag blends pairing broad (#EnergyTransition) with niche (#Hyperspectral); trendjacking COP summits and IEA reports in a "tech excited to contribute" voice rather than corporate blandness; AMAs with engineers; and peer amplification with partner organisations.
Set a full KPI framework across profile growth, engagement, content impact, community and conversion — so the plan could be judged rather than admired.
Laid out a three-month editorial calendar for September, October and November — every slot named, from "The Billion-Dollar Invisible Problem" and "Methane Leak Detection" to "Feeding the E20 Transition", "India’s Hyperspectral Advantage" and "Space is the New Microscope", colour-coded by pillar and pinned to real moments like the Firefly 30-day mark, Teachers’ Day and Engineers’ Day.
Then executed the opening campaign. Anchored to a live news cycle — India’s E20 fuel programme and global attention on oil sanctions — and built around the petroleum industry, giving an abstract sensor a concrete, timely stake. The centrepiece was a carousel introducing the Firefly satellite, framed entirely around two problems the sector already loses money on: methane and CO₂ emissions mapping, and early pipeline leak detection. A four-part X thread carried the same argument in a different rhythm, plus a LinkedIn post, supplementary artwork and a film.

Write the strategy before the posts
Audience tiers, seven content pillars with cadence, engagement tactics and a KPI framework — so the content has something to be accountable to rather than being judged on whether it looked nice.
Count the amplifiers, not just the buyers
Space-tech enthusiasts and young professionals will never sign a procurement contract. They are in the audience definition anyway, because they are the ones who spread thought leadership to the people who will.
Find the stake
Hyperspectral imaging is abstract. Petroleum is not. Anchoring the launch to a live fuel-policy news cycle gave the campaign urgency it could not manufacture on its own.
Lead with their loss
Framed capability as the buyer’s existing problem — undetected methane leaks, pipeline failures — so the technology arrived as an answer rather than a boast.
Invent the visual world
With zero source assets, I built the imagery: geometric wireframes and spectral gradients that suggest sensing without faking data captures.
Design for the swipe
Shared elements bleed across slide edges, so continuing the carousel feels like continuing one thought. Continuity is the retention mechanic.
